Summary
Chapter 9. The family struggles to adapt to their new life. Mrs. Corrigan wants to continue writing and asks her husband to bring home a typewriter from work. He keeps procrastinating and she eventually goes down to pick it up. Mr. Corrigan explains that he has been procrastinating because he doesn’t want his wife to continue to write, as it may lead to them being discovered.
The family is also having a hard time financially. They were used to being an upper middle class family, and are now required to “learn how to make do.” Mr. and Mrs. Corrigan approach this as an adventure of sorts, but April continues to struggle when she cannot have the luxuries she was used to.
