Key

A key is carried by Grace throughout the novel. The key is how Grace gets into and out of her apartment whenever her mother is strung out on pills. The key is carefully guarded by Grace, for it allows her to get outside to make sure someone can see she is in trouble.

Plywood

A sheet of plywood is purchased by Jake Lafferty for Grace. She can practice tap dancing on it. The plywood is settled on Billy's carpeted living room floor, so that Grace's tapping will not wake up her mother.

Tap Dance Shoes

When Jake gives Rayleen a gift certificate to Dance World, Grace is able to buy her very own pair of tap dance shoes for dancing.

Clothes

Grace's clothes are dingy, dirty, and very worn. So, Mrs. Hinman decides to create new clothing for Grace, making everything from shirts and pants to...
