Grace Ferguson
Grace Ferguson is the nine-year old protagonist of the novel "Don't Let Me Go" by Catherine Ryan Hyde. Grace is a kind, sweet, and thoughtful little girl who is the daughter of Eileen, a drug addict. Grace understands that her situation is dire. She begins sitting on Billy's front porch in hopes that someone will see that she is in trouble. Ultimately, all of the residents in the building discover that she is in trouble because of her courageous act. The members of the building, from Billy to Rayleen to Jake, all band together to help her out. Ultimately, the goal is for Eileen to get clean. Grace argues that she should not see her mother until such time. The others reluctantly agree. During this time, Billy teaches Grace how to tap dance, and all the neighbors -who have rarely spoken with one another before- become friends...
