Part 1, Chapter 13 Summary
The next morning, the goatherds and Quixote rise and begin to make their way to the funeral. Along the way, they meet a party of shepherds dressed for mourning, as well as two men on horseback. They begin to travel together, and one of the men named Vivaldo converses with Quixote about his current profession, knight-errantry. They think him mad but encourage his conversation anyway. Vivaldo charges that instead of making their last moments in honor of their ladies, knights should instead submit themselves to God, as good Christians. They arrive at their destination, where Ambrosio, a friend of Chrisostom's, is speaking. He announces that the verses written in honor of the wretched Marcela are to be interred with Chrisostom.
