Summary
Mr. Carker opens Chapter 22 opening and sorting mail. His disgraced and outcast brother, John, arrives to pick up the mail and informs Carker that their sister, Harriet, is sick. Carker makes it clear that he does not care; he disowned her for choosing to support John after his disgrace. John begs Carker to visit Harriet, insisting that she meant no harm to him and was only worried about John because he was left all alone. Carker is unmoved and tells John he has no sister. John is dismissed.
Carker opens a letter from Dombey in Leamington asking him to come visit to let him know how the business is doing. Dombey also asks Carker not to send Walter to Barbadoes afterall. But it is too late; neither Carker or Dombey feel much remorse for this unfortunate situation.
