Summary
In Chapter 10, Major Bagstock tries to woo Miss Tox back to him, who is only interested in little Paul Dombey. Major Bagstock follows Miss Tox to Brighton on the excuse that he is visiting his friend’s son. Mr. Dombey happens to be there at the same time and he hits it off with Major Bagstock who is suitably deferential and obsequious toward Dombey. Major Bagstock also brings his “native servant” with him who he beats and abuses constantly.
Walter and Captain Cuttle arrive in Brighton to ask Dombey for money to help Uncle Sol. Walter is humiliated and terrified but asks Dombey for the money anyway. Florence and little Paul watch the whole thing and are both deeply moved by Walter’s plight.
