Summary
In Chapter 7, we are introduced to the home and neighborhood of Miss Tox. Miss Tox lives in a small, dark, modest apartment in a very nice neighborhood. She willingly gives up size and comfort in her home to live in this neighborhood and is very proud of it. She has a bachelor neighbor named Major Joe Bagstock. They have a long standing flirtation that neither will fully admit to, though Miss Tox has largely lost interest since she started spending time with Dombey. Major Bagstock is taken aback when Miss Tox stops paying as much attention to him and even more shocked when he notices that she often brings a baby (Paul) and his nurse to her home. Miss Tox, encouraged by Louisa, continues to quietly hope that Dombey will marry her. The whole family has high hopes and dreams for little Paul...
