Summary

Chapter 14 is titled “And Then There Were Two.” Crunky and Bub are the only two remaining outside the mite and inside the submarine. They are crying. Bub remembers that it takes both fear and anger to create happiness. They remember the pies and run to the kitchen. They throw pies at the mite, hitting him with several until his eyes begin to turn red. Then, the mite slurps pie off his face, saying “nom, nom.” Bub says the mite will not get any more pie because “I want my friends back” (211). The next three frames show the mite thinking, sticking its hands down its throat, and the others emerge from the mite's mouth with a “splop.” Bub and Crunky throw pies out of the submarine and the mite jumps back into the sweat gland after them.
