Point of View

The novels are written in third-person from an omniscient perspective. This is necessary because no single character is present in all of the scenes. Dog Man is arguably the main character of the novels, though Petey and Lil' Petey take control of the action quite often. In most scenes, one of these three characters is present, but none of them is present in all scenes. In some cases, this means the reader knows things that some characters do not. For example, the reader follows the situation as the Chief, Sarah, and Milly are fighting the bad guys while Dog Man is chasing a squirrel. The Chief wonders about the whereabouts of Dog Man. Later, Dog Man goes home after being in trouble. The Chief, Milly, and Sarah are captured by the FLEAS, but Dog Man does not know this until 80-HD shows him a news...
