Summary
In Chapter 4, Amal wakes for school and takes time to think about her decision. She says this has to be a permanent choice, and that she cannot simply stop wearing the hajib after choosing to wear it all the time. At the breakfast table, her parents again ask if she is ready for this step. They say she will have to talk to the principal as soon as she arrives at school. McCleans is a private school and Amal describes an unwelcoming atmosphere and students who are obsessed with the financial situations of their fellow students. She compares it to the casual, friendly atmosphere at Hidaya. Amal talks about Tia Tamos, a popular girl who is rude to most of the others.
As Amal walks into school wearing the hajib, she chides herself for being nervous. Ms. Walsh, the principal, is not happy...
