(Prefatory Matters)
Importance: When Dan sees the manifestation of Mrs. Massey in the bathroom of the apartment he shares with his mother, he gets the sense that he will never be free from the horrors of the Overlook. This suspicion foreshadows Dan’s trip to the place where the Overlook once stood in order to save Abra from Rose.
Someday, Danny, it will be your turn to be the teacher. The pupil will come.

(Prefatory Matters)
Importance: Dick tells Dan that just like Dick came when Dan needed him, one day a child with the shining will need Dan. Dan doubts that Dick’s prediction will come true since he believes that he has little to offer. When Dan realizes that Abra is the child he is intended to help, he hears Dick’s voice telling him that he has a debt to repay.
