Summary

In Chapter 35, Roman returns to Marisol’s. Attie advises Iris to be kind to him since he is still unwell. Iris goes up to Roman’s room and invites him on a walk to their hill. They hold hands on their walk and discuss their likes and dislikes. Roman clarifies that he did not come to Avalon to outshine Iris but to be with her. He gets down on one knee, but then his leg starts bleeding. He pulled a stitch. Iris feels anxious as she runs to Peter’s—Marisol’s neighbor—to borrow his truck to retrieve Roman. That night, she and Roman exchange a few flirty letters and decide to meet in the garden the next day.
