Summary

In Chapter 25, Iris writes a motivational letter to herself. A siren goes off as she is working alongside Attie in Marisol’s garden. Attie is shocked to see a figure brazenly walk through a field during the siren, then realizes it is Roman dressed in the uniform of a war correspondent.

Iris sprints over to him, and then tackles him to the ground. She warns him to stay still and not speak; this is what one must do when caught outside during an eithral attack. Iris notices how good her body feels against Roman’s, then feels guilty when she recalls Carver. Once the danger passes, Iris lifts herself off of Roman and asks “what the hell” he is doing there (113). He smiles and says it is good to see her.
