Summary

In Chapter 17, Attie and Iris arrive at Marisol’s bed and breakfast in Avalon Bluff. They notice the town is eerily quiet. Marisol’s windows are boarded up, but she lets the girls in once they declare Helena sent them.

The women discuss their families over a hearty meal. Attie is one of six siblings. Marisol is 33 and has two chosen younger sisters. Marisol then explains the three kinds of sirens heard in Avalon. The first is for the hounds. The second is for the eithrals, which are wyverns that carry bombs for Dacre. The third warns them that Enva’s army is retreating and cannot protect them. The girls choose their bedrooms, which are equally cozy.
