Summary

In Chapter 7, Iris writes to Roman—still ignorant of his identity—to ask what he knows of Enva and Dacre. Roman transcribes a myth his grandfather wrote by hand and sends it to her. The myth describes how there were two rivalling kinds of gods: Skywards, who ruled above, and Underlings, who ruled below. Dacre Underling sent eithrals to find Enva Skyward, whom he wished to wed. She reprimanded him for inadvertently hurting people with his eithrals and rejected his proposal. He kept unleashing chaos until she agreed to wed him on two conditions: that he keep the peace and let her play her music whenever she wanted. He accepted but did not anticipate the impact her music would have on the world.
