Petropavlovsk
Petropavlovsk is the largest urban center on Kamchatka peninsula. Petropavlovsk's city center near the water is the last sight the Golsovosky girls were seen. While walking her dog in the center, Oksana sees the girls get into Yegor's SUV. After the abduction, the center is less and less occupied as the community perceives it as a place of danger. Petropavlovsk is also the place many of the characters move to find a new life outside their northern rural childhoods.
Esso
Esso is a town in the north of Kamchatka. Families who live in Esso often work as herders. They spend summer seasons in the tundra herding reindeer, living in extremely rural geographies. Many of the characters who live in Esso as adults believe it is depressing, simple, too isolated. The characters who grew up there, often recall its charm and natural beauty.
