Chapters 7-12 Summary

In Chapter 7, the anonymous young man Dick Hickock encountered in the elevator breaks into another upscale apartment. As before, he picks the lock. Once inside the apartment, the man opens the safe with the use of a palm-pad computer. It is obvious that the man has been in this apartment before as he knows the layout by heart. Using a stopwatch to time himself, the young man disconnects the phone line, and then proceeds to steal $35,000 in cash and a small caliber, nickel-plated handgun with a silencer. He escapes just in time, leaving the building by the stairs. On his way out, he collides with a garbage collector, runs into Central Park and disappears.
