Summary
In the 43rd section titled “2014, Black Site (Negev Desert),” Prisoner Z paces his cell. He no longer eats and has taken to hitting his head against the wall. The guard continues to bring Prisoner Z pills of increasing dosages, making Z think that the guard is worried. The heavy medication and perhaps also his self-injured head have made Prisoner Z’s sense of balance poor. The guard believes his prisoner might be going crazy. The guard often rushes into the cell when he believes Prisoner Z experiences panic attacks. At these moments, the guard sometimes holds Prisoner Z, in an attempt to comfort.
