Chapter 43 - 45 Summary

Midge Milken, the NSA's internal security analyst hands the weekly reports to Director Leland Fontaine's personal assistant, Chad Brinkerhoff as she leaves for the evening. The reports show the estimated cost for TRANSLTR to break a single code. Milken teases Brinkerhoff about his affair Carmen Huerta, the pastry chef who works in the NSA commissary. When Brinkerhoff demands to know how she would know about that, Milken reminds him that there are video cameras, phone taps and freestanding bugs all over the NSA complex. She tells him that his extramarital affair is no secret at the NSA.

As Milken leaves, Brinkerhoff begins to review the reports. The normal mean cost per decryption is $1000 per code but Brinkerhoff discovers that the report is showing the MCD is a billion dollars. He runs down the hall to stop Milken.
