Chapter 13 - 15 Summary
Tokugen Numataka, a shrewd Japanese businessman in Tokyo reflects on an anonymous phone call he had received three days before. He considers himself extremely fortunate.
He was initially suspicious of the American who was offering to sell him the Digital Fortress pass code. He had already placed his bid on the new algorithm and suspected that the caller was a competitor trying to find out the amount of his bid. The American claimed to be Tankado's silent partner North Dakota. Numataka knows North Dakota's pass code is worthless without Tankado's pass code.
The caller informed Numataka that he would sell him both pass codes for twenty million dollars, the exact amount of Numataka's bid. Numataka told the caller he was taking a major legal risk in making such an offer, as Tankado would never tolerate such treason. The caller had told...
