Summary
The short story “Requiem for a Glass Heart” is centered around a stone thrower and his glass family. The man is a “flesh-and-blood man” (117) who falls in love with a woman made of glass. They meet at a beach where he is entranced by her gleaming beauty. The woman of glass quickly fell in love with stone thrower as well – he was the first man who listened to her hopes, dreams, and fears. She wanted to keep secrets for herself, but was unable to resist pouring herself out to him completely. After seven months, the stone thrower and the glass woman get married.
When the stone thrower and his wife have sex, he hears the “high-pitched lamentation of glass succumbing to pressure” (119) and must be careful not to break her. He asks her to share all her secrets with him...
