Chapters 18 to 33 Summary
The boys start walking again. Teddy and Vern pull ahead. Chris says it won't be the same in school next year, since Gordie will be taking college prep courses unlike the rest of them. Gordie says he won't take the courses if it splits up their group, but Chris tells him that's stupid. He says he doesn't want Gordie to ruin his life just to hang out with them. Chris says he knows how everyone thinks his family is bad news, and when the milk money was missing at school, everyone thought he took it and didn't even ask. He says he did take it, but he tried to give it back. The money never turned up, and he still got blamed, but their teacher, Mrs. Simons, came in with a new skirt.
