Summary

Kitty’s story resumes in June of 1955. This is the first time Kitty’s sections label her as Kitty rather than Mary, so for the remainder of the study guide, Mary will now be referred to as Kitty and Lillian will be referred to as Emma. Kitty has begun working at Telescope. Richard is miserable at his job, and he writes to Kitty telling her that he gave up his dream of being a doctor because a teacher at the white school where he took some classes failed him so that he could not move on to medical school. Telescope is making a film called The Misfits starring Cora Rivers who is Abner Tate’s mistress. When Nathan takes control due to Abner’s Alzheimer’s, Nathan puts all productions on hold.
