Summary

The rain ruins the signs Greg and Rowley have put up, causing them to bleed green ink onto the brick. The green ink cannot be removed. When someone sees them and shouts at them, they run. As they run, Greg realizes everything could probably have been sorted out of they had just stayed put instead. The local paper carries a story about the incident, with two inaccurate sketches of Greg and Rowley. Greg realizes he is essentially a criminal. At school, everyone is talking about the green splotches. An assembly is called for third period where Vice Principal Roy calls on the guilty party, or people with knowledge about the splotches, to come forward. An anonymous tip box will be left in the cafeteria.

After lunch, the police come to the school to interview the worst troublemaker, including Dennis Root. Greg and Rowley...
