Chapter Six Summary
On Sunday morning, Mr. Finch tries to convince the Amabos that they would be happier in the all-black church up the road, but the Amabos won't hear of it. They want to attend the church that sponsored them from America. Begrudgingly, Mr. Finch agrees. The pastor preaches a sermon on the Good Samaritan. Afterward, the entire congregation greets the Amabo family, and the Finches take their new, extended family out for dinner. Celestine and Andre are invigorated by the sermon, and proclaim how happy they are to be back in a church, praising the God that kept them safe in the war. Jared doesn't understand their enthusiasm.
