Chapter VI, pgs. 503-551 Summary
Kidd and Denny are walking to Lanya's, Denny points out where Lanya is living. Madame Brown answers the door when Kidd knocks. Lanya is sleeping and they wake her. They talk about different things like poetry and capital punishment. Lanya decides she wants to go out for a walk. She has the galleys of Kidd's book that she received from Newboy and gives them to him.
While walking to the school where Lanya teaches, they see the blond Mexican who Kidd had met by the bridge. He is deaf and dumb. They talk about what it is like to be blind. The school Lanya teaches at used to be a clothing store. Lanya takes them inside. She teaches children age seven to nine. She has taped herself playing the harmonica and lets them listen to the tape...
