Summary
Warĩĩnga and Gatuĩria observe a procession of women, men, and children heading towards the cave. In the crowd, Warĩĩnga recognizes the man who gave her the invitation to the Devil’s Feast; Gatuĩria recognizes the man as a student at the university, confirming Mwaũra’s earlier allegations. Warĩĩnga and Gatuĩria describe the procession as an army of workers, peasants, petty traders, and students taking the battle to the cave. They see Mũturi in the crowd and give him the news of Wangarĩ’s arrest. While Gatuĩria tells Mũturi to run away, he refuses, noting that: “We must struggle and fight against the culture of fear” through a “strong organization of the workers and peasants of the land” (205).
