Summary
Chapter Two opens with the Devil appearing to a young woman named Jacinta Warĩĩnga. Warĩĩnga was recently dismissed from her job as secretary in Nairobi for rejecting the advances of her employer, Boss Kĩhara. Her boyfriend, John Kimwana, also left her after accusing her of sleeping with her boss. Then, her landlord, who decides to increase her rent, evicts her. The landlord’s henchmen hand her a slip of paper that includes the title, “Devil’s Angels: Private Businessmen” (10).
Warĩĩnga believes that she is ugly because she has dark skin, though her skin is smooth. She also wears the current fashions that do not flatter her eye-catching figure.
