Summary
Chapter 7, which is labeled “Eight weeks after conception” (207), begins with the narration explaining that trans girls spend a lot of time in churches attending the funerals of other trans girls, and that while it is not commonly admitted, trans funerals are notable social events. The funeral Reese is currently attending is for Tammi, who died in a car accident. Reese meets Thalia in the church courtyard, who tells a joke about the prevalence of trans funerals. A trans girl standing nearby, who Reese sees as “one of those Twitter girls eager to offer theory-laden takes on gender” (212), seems to disapprove. Reese becomes angry at her judgment.
