Summary

Chapter 6 takes place “Three years before conception” (183). The narration describes Reese’s public relations career, in which she was responsible for passing on fashion samples to people of note. Reese valued her PR work because it seemed to help people take her seriously and see her as equal to Amy, whereas when Reese had been a waitress people had perceived her as being dependent on Amy. The narration reflects on the difference in life milestones for queer and trans people from those of their heterosexual counterparts, and Reese’s fixation on a good dining set as a marker of success, which developed when she saw an especially beautiful table belonging to an acquaintance.
