Summary
Chapter 3, which takes place “Six weeks after conception” (77), opens with Ames and Katrina meeting clients at a business dinner at a Chicago restaurant that specializes in Wisconsin cuisine. The narration notes that Ames grew up in the Midwest, where people suffered from a sense of inferiority, and that his transition might have appeared to an aunt of his to be an attempt at elitism. At the dinner, Katrina appears to be upset with Ames. She references his past in front of the clients, telling them that he used to be transsexual.
