Part IV, Chapter 3 Summary
Johnny is in the mining hut looking for the keys to an ATV, intent upon saving himself. He continues to hear his ex-wife Terry's voice in his head, and having arguments with her. He seems unwilling to disappoint her, and recognizes he divorced her long ago because she knew him so well. Johnny tries to ignore the bodies around him, tries to focus his mind on saving himself. He does not realize that the voice he attributes to Terry is actually God speaking to him about his decisions.
Suddenly, a wolf arrives in the unlikely area of a Nevada mining office, and confronts Johnny. Johnny has only a hammer in his hands, he is emotionally and physically exhausted, and his self confidence and self esteem is at low ebb as he faces this new danger.
