Dengue Boy

Dengue Boy is the main character of the short story. Because Dengue Boy is a mosquito, he is rejected by all of his peers and classmates. Everybody hates him because he looks funny and acts differently. Throughout his childhood, therefore, Dengue Boy grows accustomed to his peers’ cruelty and harassment. Instead of reacting, however, Dengue Boy tunnels into himself. He either ignores his classmates or tries to avoid them. In spite of these tactics, Dengue Boy still feels hurt by his peers’ bullying. He often shakes and trembles with frustration and upset in response to their tormenting games.

Although Dengue Boy tries not to listen to his classmates’ rumors and stories about him, over time, he internalizes their gossip and slander. He cannot help but see himself as the disgusting freak that they perceive him to be. Even outside the context of his academic sphere, Dengue Boy...
