Summary

In Chapter 30, in sixth grade, Demon started feeling like a “loser in disguise” (227). He had not changed, but his circumstances and appearance had. Seeing his potential, Coach urged him to train for football. School also got better because of “this one teacher Mr. Armstrong” (229). He was also a guidance counselor. He encouraged Demon academically, artistically, and personally. However, Demon feared that soon he would be in “some other placement and school” where no one knew or cared about him (232).

Angus became Demon’s first friend since Maggot. She was unlike any girl Demon had ever met. She hated almost everyone, and was “a Gifted and Talented” student (235). Everything about her was “dark and chill” (236).
