Chapter 5: Ed's Song Summary

Before Nita manages to leave the house the next morning, her mother stops her. She is hesitant at first, but finally comes right out and asks Nita what she and Kit are doing all day long. Specifically, she is concerned as to whether or not they are having sex. Nita blushes furiously as she assures her that they are not, and when questioned further, tells her mother that they swim, explore, hike, talk, and generally just hang out. Nothing more. She finally is able to leave, but little has been resolved for either one of them. Kit is already waiting for her, and conveys his irritation that she is late.
