Trippton, Minnesota
Trippton is the town in which the narrative takes place. The fact that it is a small town promotes the plot as there are not a lot of jobs there, thus the altered Barbie Doss manufacturing idea arises in order to help people make money. The fact that the people all know each other and maintain their high school reputations and competitiveness creates the situation in which the murder can take place and creates suspects.
David Birkman’s House
Readers first meet David in his house at the beginning of the narrative. It is here that they learn that he is Gina’s killer. Thus, the house serves as the setting that creates the mystery of how Virgil is going to discover that David is the killer. The house is also the setting in which the mystery ends as it is where Virgil confront David.
