Chapters 61-65 Summary

The nuclear Submarine USS Charlotte is in the Arctic Ocean; it has been stationed there for the last five days. It is a US Navy sub designed for stealth . One of the technicians is listening to the ocean and hears a dull, repetitive thud coming from the surface about three miles from their current location. Michael is losing feeling in his extremities as his body fights the oncoming hypothermia. He has accepted that it is only a matter of time before he freezes to death, but wishes he could save Rachel and Corky. He sees a large black object rise from the sea and thinks he must be hallucinating. He is grabbed and then loses consciousness. Rachel regains consciousness in a shower.
