Chapters 41-45 Summary
Norah Mangor refuses to believe that there are bioluminescent plankton in the extraction pit. Michaels says they must have died in the freshwater environment. To settle everyone's doubts, Norah takes a water sample and tests it. She is shocked to find three percent salinity and the presence of dead plankton. The four wonder how this is possible when Norah took fifteen ice samples that showed that the glacier is solid, and PODS did not pick up any change in density. Additionally, because the surface they are on is 100 feet above sea level, any crack would cause the water to flow down towards the ocean instead of up towards the surface, due to gravity.
