Chapters 11 - 15 Summary

Rachel ponders what the President has told her. She thinks a monumental discovery must mean that NASA has discovered evidence of extra-terrestrial life, but at the same time, she believes this is impossible. President Herney further explains to Rachel that he has enlisted the expertise of four civilian scientists, who have their own reputations to protect and would only verify NASA data if it was in fact correct. He then brings Rachel to an airplane hangar, while he leaves via helicopter for the White House. The President is very aware of how disillusioned his staff have become and asks his secretary to arrange a meeting for all White House staff in the Oval Office at 4 pm.
