Chapters 4-6 Summary

In Chapter 4, Ben watches the area where the prospector was killed and discovers that Madec has already moved on. Ben slips closer to the body in hopes of stealing the man's boots, but discovers that Madec has completely undressed the body and taken off with the sheet and rope Ben brought to the area. Ben then goes in search of the prospector's camp, hoping the old man had some food and water that would help Ben. However, when he finds the camp, he discovers that Madec found it first. Everything of use to Ben is gone or damaged, including a water can. Ben does find a locked box that Madec overlooked, but inside all Ben finds is a wallet with very little money and a large, well-made slingshot. Ben takes the slingshot.
