Summary
Chapter 4, “Notes on a Restless Night,” is from Katherine's perspective and opens with a quote from John about truth. Katherine feels she has barely gone to sleep when Jackson wakes her for her turn at watch. Jane arrives, saying she cannot sleep. Jane wears a penny as a necklace that has been imbued with magic. If she is in danger, the penny becomes cold. When it is clear Jane will not try to sleep, Katherine talks about her childhood in New Orleans, which grabs Jane's interest. Katherine thinks about her own insecurities but gives in when Jane wants more details about New Orleans, which Katherine says most pronounce as “Nawlins.” They are interrupted by the terrified sound of the horse, indicating shamblers are approaching. Katherine kills seven and is pleased that she did so while wearing her corset. Jackson goes outside...
