Didi
Didi is a teenage girl who happens to be Death. According to her explanation, Death lives in human form for one day each century so that it has a better sense of human life and mortality. Didi seems to take this to heart, intent on enjoying all of the small joys of life, from eating hot dogs, apples and bagels, to enjoying a night on the town at a party.
Wearing an Ankh around her neck and dressed in black, Didi makes friends wherever she goes, getting meals and taxi rides for free along the way. Her joy in the simple things eventually rub off on Sexton, who starts the novel intent on suicide, but ends up willing to live life and look for the good in it.
