Chapter Three, The High Cost of Living Summary
Mad Hettie searches Didi's apartment looking for tea, reminiscing about the Boston Tea party and all the tea that was wasted. Finding only coffee, Hettie goes to the apartment of Mrs. Robbins and asks for a cup of tea.
Didi and Sexton sit in the basement where Didi seems to be a bit absent-minded and restless. Sexton asks her if she really believes she is Death. Didi tells Sexton that one day every century, Death takes the form of a human so that she will have a better understanding of human life and mortality. When Sexton asks Didi how she knows this, she has trouble remembering. Didi seems frustrated, telling Sexton that she knew the answer earlier in the day.
