Summary

The ship returns to port. As they are docking, Cornelia announces to Poirot that she spent the night with Jackie and the steward. She also announces that she's marrying Dr. Bessner. Richetti is escorted off the boat by two engineers to be taken to jail. Simon is being carried off the ship by stretcher when Jackie approaches him with the steward that is escorting her. Simon apologizes to Jackie for confessing everything. Jackie tells him is okay, bends to tie her shoe lace and pulls something out of her stocking. She shoots and kills Simon and then shoots and kills herself.

Analysis

Jackie and Simon are representative of Romeo and Juliet. They are lovers that can no longer be together. Just as Romeo and Juliet did, Jackie kills Simon and then kills herself so that they can be together again in another world or another lifetime...
