Summary
Hercule Poirot asks Mrs. Allerton what the meaning of the word "fey" is, which is how Mrs. Allerton describes Linnet when she decides not to allow Jackie to bother her. Mrs. Allerton says it is a Scottish word that describes the happiness that comes before a disaster. Linnet accidentally opens a teleagrm meant for Mr. Richetti, who is an Italian ship member. Colonel Race surprises Hercule as a new ship passenger. The colonel is someone Hercule met at a dinner party where their host was murdered. The colonel says he's on the ship looking for a man that kills people but he doesn't know which passenger it is yet.
Analysis
It's ironic that Mrs. Allerton describes Linnet as "fey" because shortly after this the boulder almost falls on and crushes Linnet. It is also a foreshadowing of the murders that are yet to come. Colonel Race...
