The Speaker's House
In "Ghost Cat," the speaker describes her sick cat's movements through her house. Before the cat was sick, she would spend most of her time begging for attention on the sidewalk. After her diagnosis, she began stalking the speaker's home in the middle of the night, and howling. In the kitchen, she would take random bites out of fruit. Upstairs, she would scratch and whine at the speaker's bedroom door. Despite her obvious desperation, the speaker never opened the door for her.
The Speaker's Cellar
In "Coconut," the speaker says that after the war she found a coconut in the cellar of her family's home. It made sense for the coconut to appear in the cellar, because the cellar was also where they stored the axe. On the filth and soot of the cellar floor, the speaker and her family split the fruit.
