Valentine, Texas is where Sweet Pea lives and attends school. She refers to the town as “small,” but it is large enough to support several businesses, a school, and a newspaper. Her mother is a therapist and has an office in town and her father is planning to buy the local hardware store. The town seems typical for small towns of this time and place. Sweet Pea is able to ride her bicycle around town without concern for her safety.
