Summary
At work, Emmy responded to more letters from readers and kept her response to Confused always at the ready in case she decided to put it in the magazine. Emmy suspected Mrs. Bird never read the final proofs, but Emmy would have to be sure first.
Word of the broken engagement spread, and Emmy’s parents invited her and Bunty home to Little Whitfield, far North of London and away from Blitz targets for the weekend. Emmy’s brother Jack was also home on leave. Emmy noted that Bunty’s parents had died when she was a child.
