The House
The narrator grew up in a house in a rural area of southwestern Ontario. She lived therewith her mother, father, and brother. Her father structured the yard for the raising of minks and foxes, but the demand for those furs eventually disappeared. As an adult, the narrator discovers that Mrs. Netterfield’s family used to live in the house.
Town
Across a river near the house is an incorporated township. The narrator’s father purchased a shed within town’s limits so that the narrator could attend school there.
The Schools
When the narrator was young, she attended a school near her house. She disliked the school and was glad when it shut down during World War Two. She then attended a school across the river, which she attended for the remainder of her primary and secondary education.
