Though the investigators and therapists have Hannah's best interests in mind, Hannah is convinced they are trying to take her away from her parents, and her parents away from her. So when Sister Ruth asks where the cabin is located, Hannah insists that nobody is allowed to find her home or her family. Even before the reader knows the truth of Hannah's circumstances, this moment reveals how brainwashed she has been by her father, and how desperate she is to return to her learned family structure.
